John Derk Boekeloo (1867-1951) was a son of Derk H. Boekeloo (#29). He has been married with Dena Johnson (abt. 1870-1948). John and Dena lived in Kalamazoo-MI. Mrs. Ann-Marie Henegar, who is a great-granddaughter of Dena's brother John, wrote me: "Dena immigrated from Rotterdam, Netherlands in May of 1881 on the ship the "Castor" to N.Y., USA. She came with her father Harm Berends Jansen, mother Sietje Remminga, 2 older step-sisters Trijntje & Jantje,(their mother was Martje Wiltjer, Harm's first wife that died 1863 Uithuizen, Netherlands). Also on the ship were Dena's older brother Willem, older sister Engeltje, and younger siblings Altje, Harke, Barteld & Hendrik. Dena's mother, Sietje Remminga - daughter of Willem Remminga & Engeltje Jans van der Veen, was pregnant with twins! One of them is my great grandfather John. He and his twin sister were born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - 6-JUN-1881. Two other children, Roy and Jennie were born after the twins. The name changed from JANSEN to JOHNSON in the USA. I thought it interesting that you mention the Boekeloo's from Uithuizen, Netherlands. All of the above children of Harm Berends Jansen were born in Uithuizen. Dena (Berendina Jansen) was born 25-APR-1870 in Uithuizen. Her father Harm Berends Jansen, was born 11-OCT-1823 in Ten Boer, Netherlands, the son of Berend Rudolfs Jansen & Jantje Hindriks Timmer. 10 children were born to them."
